Nigerian Afrobeat singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has dismissed reports that he was arrested in East Africa.

There were reports that the singer was arrested in East Africa where he was on tour on April 1, 2024.

According to the reports, which were later said to be in line with the April Fool tradition, cocaine was found in the aircraft of the musician.

But in a statement shared via his Instagram story on Tuesday, Davido said rumors were completely false.

He stated that throughout his career, he had never been arrested in Nigeria or anywhere in the world, adding that he had a successful tour in Uganda and Kenya and has now returned to the country.

He vowed to take legal action against the fabricators of the rumours.

The statement, titled, ‘Setting Record Straight on False Arrest Reports,’ reads: “Fam, it has come to my attention that false reports regarding an arrest circulated online on April 1st, which has since led to a barrage of calls. I want to assure my fans that these re- ports are entirely untrue. I successfully completed my scheduled shows in Uganda and Kenya and have since re- turned home to Nigeria.

“I’d also like to note that I have never been arrested by anyone in any country for any crime in the world. Not my home Nigeria, my home America, or any of the hundreds of countries I’ve made home throughout my career.

“I find the fabrication of allegations of such international crimes extremely irresponsible regardless of the light of ‘April Fools’, and my lawyer is seeking legal recourse against the media parties responsible for generating this misinformation. Thank you for your continued support. Our blessings are from God. I love you all.”
