The Da’wah Front of Nigeria, an Islamic group, said it has disbursed N1.8 million as Zakat to the less privileged in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Speaking at the distribution exercise, the National Coordinator of the group, Alhaji Musliudeen Gafar, said the beneficiaries received cash, freezers, generators, industrial sewing machines, printing machines.

Alhaji Gafar, who was represented by the Deputy National Coordinator, Professor Sheriff Adewuyi, explained that the exercise was structured in a way that the beneficiaries are limited to the group’s members in Abeokuta due to available resources.

He assured that the organisation would to monitor the use of the items by the beneficiaries. 

“To the beneficiaries, I appeal to you to make judicious use of the items. We will continue to monitor you for the next six months, because the essence of it is for you to be successful in your trade so that you can also begin to pay Zakat in the nearest future,” he said.

In his sermon titled ‘The concept of Zakat, Sadaqah and Economic Empowerment’, Professor Sharafdeen AbdulKareem explained that Zakat was institutionalised to purify the wealth of the rich and distribute among the poor.
