The event themed “MSSN: Impact, Problems and Prospects” was attended by past leaders and dignitaries across the country including the Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.
Thus last Saturday’s MSSN National Stakeholders Conference held at the conference hall of the Abuja National Mosque and themed “Repositioning MSSN to Face Modern Challenges in Islamic Propagation” organized by the Board of Trustees (BOT) and leaders of the MSSN was part of the resolutions of the 2014 Diamond (60th) anniversary.
Speaking at the conference Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo urged Nigerians to support the incoming administration of the President-elect retired General Muhammadu Buhari for national development.
He said the present administration has played significant roles in transforming the nation’s educational system through establishment of infrastructural facilities like the Almajirai Model Schools, new Federal Universities, intervention in tertiary institutions through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) and other interventionist government programmes in the agriculture and transport sectors and job creation opportunities for the youths.
“Government as you are aware is a continuum and with the coming of a new democratic dispensation, I urge you to continue to give them maximum support and cooperation to enable them succeed,” Sambo said.
He paid tribute to late Dr. Lateef Adegbtite, Professors Babatunde Fafunwa, Abdurrahaman Sahid,  Tajudeen Aromashodun and others who founded the MSSN to unite all Muslim students under a common aspiration and promote the Islamic tenets.
He expressed delight that the MSSN over the years has been working assiduously to bring all Muslim youths together and inculcate the true Islamic spirit of brotherhood and absolute faith in Allah among other virtues in them.
He therefore urged members of the association to propagate the true message of Islam which is peace, hope, harmony, goodwill and brotherhood as encapsulated in the Qur’an, Hadith and Sunnah.
In his remark former Kano State Governor and Minister of Education Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, who was a former national president of the association said there is no better way to face future challenges by the MSSN than to relate with the past.
National Ameer (President) of MSSN Mallam Abdulazeez Sirajudeen Folayemi, said the conference could have not come at a better time as the present generation of MSSN is faced with multidimensional challenges in carrying out the primary duty of creating Islamic awareness and understanding among the Muslim students in the society.
He commended government and the security forces for the successes in the war against Boko Haram insurgency. He condemned the non-rescue of the Chibok school girls and the murder of Prof. Ahmad Mustafa Falaki, a former National President of the association by the police.
Mallam Yusuf Olaolu Ali, SAN represented by Barrister Abdulqadir Abdullah who delivered the keynote and the theme said most students of the MSSN gained their understanding of Islam as a way of life, as against aggregate of rituals, through MSSN programs, especially its organised lectures covering all aspects of life from the Islamic perspective.
“Alhamdulillah, the society has passed through the greasy pole for over 60 years with many imperishable milestones in many facets. Nonetheless, more roads need to be crosses and the society (MSSN) needs to come in consonance with the changing circumstances of the present time in order to be able to propagate the course of Allah better,” he said.
“The MSSN should stay out of non-student groups such as NASFAT, NACOMYO, TMC, all Asalatu groups. MSSN should cater for only students. In this respect, there should be three main divisions of MSS in Nigeria: the Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and the tertiary institutions. There is no limit to the age of members provided they are involved in educational and related programmes,” Abdulkareem charged.
