The event put together by the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation, (NTDC) is involving the average Nigerian in the celebration.

NTDC boss, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe  told Weekly Trust that “the event is the first of its kind to hold in the country in that we will be visiting orphanage homes, hospitals and the physically challenged members of the society to show them love. The concert is meant to inculcate the spirit of patriotism and foster the fast eroding unity among Nigerians.

“We have tagged the event Pre-Independence Concert, which is why we have scheduled it for Friday, September 30.”

The event which will take place at the Old Parade Ground, Area 10 Garki, Abuja will permit entrance only to those who wear green and white attires as the first 51 guests will have special prizes.

There would be many top comedians as well, Runsewe said.

Emphasising that Nigerians must use this independence celebration to reconnect all the citizenry and build up the cordial relationship that for ages existed between all the tribes in this country, Runsewe said there is evidence that the easiest way to unite all Nigerians is through sports and entertainment. “That’s why we have decided to host this concert to help heal all the wounds caused by disunity and insecurity.”

The outing, which will be free for all, will begin at noon and ends at 6pm. It is expected to be an annual event henceforth.
