The Digital Bridge Institute has developed a draft national occupational standard in ICT trade areas.

The Administrator of DBI, Dr. Ike Adinde, disclosed this in Abuja at the just concluded Validation Workshop on Development of ICT Skill Framework.

Dr. Adinde said the Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) was a system for the development, classification and recognition of skills, knowledge, understanding and competencies acquired by individuals irrespective of where and how the training or skill were acquired.

He said the NSQF was aimed at promoting lifelong learning which was necessary to enhance an individual’s employability in the rapidly changing world of work arising from technological and economic development and changing career paths.  

“It will also provide quality assurance and recognition by ensuring that National Occupational Standards are defined by agreed learning outcomes and that qualifications are relevant to perceived social and economic needs.  

“There is currently no National Occupational Standards (NOS) in the ICT and Telecommunications sector of Nigeria which contributes about N1.6tn quarterly to the Nigerian GDP,” he said.

“The Digital Bridge Institute, in line with its mandate and to underscore the role ICT plays in today’s digital economy developed the draft National Occupational Standards (NOS) in ICT Trade areas which upon approval by the National Board for Technical Education, will become part of the NSQF,” he said.

The draft standard covers the following areas: Digital Services Operations, Creative Media Production, Mobile Application Development, Web Application Development, Social Media Communications, and Telecommunications Systems Installation and Maintenance.
