De Minaret holds Islamic book exhibition in Abuja

The event took place recently at the National Mosque Conference Hall, Abuja. More than five thousand Islamic books were displayed during the
exhibition organised to promote reading culture among the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria.
Professor Ibrahim Sulyman of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria delivered a lecture titled: “Uthman Dan Fodio- Our Heritage of Knowledge and Moral Reform.”
He argued in his presentation that the greatest weapon Uthman Danfodio used in transforming the society during his jihad was knowledge. He said: “When Uthman Danfodio and his followers started Jihad, they realised that the greatest and most important weapon they had in their hand is knowledge. You cannot transform society without first giving them education, with that they embarked on education. Therefore, if people are ignorant they will not be able to know God and worship Him properly.”
Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer of the group Dr.Saheed Abdur-Rau’f said that his organisation has imported more than 85,000 titles of Islamic books and made them available to the reading Muslim public at subsidised rates. He said the main objective of the exhibition was to enlighten Muslims and remind them to imbibe reading culture, in line with Islamic injunction.
More than 1,000 titles of books on Qur’anic exegesis, hadith collections, Islamic jurisprudence, Islamic biography, Islamic Economics and socio-political thoughts, children books were displayed from more than 15 publishers across the world.
