Nigeria’s Deaf Super Eagles have once again etched their name in history, emerging champions at the 13th edition of the West African Deaf Football Championship after a dramatic final against the Scorpions of Gambia at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

The victory, which marked Nigeria’s seventh title in the regional tournament, drew widespread commendation, including a heartfelt tribute from the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD).

In a statement, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Hon. Ayuba Gufwan, described the win as a moment of national pride and a testament to the resilience of Nigeria’s deaf athletes.

“This victory is a source of pride for Nigeria and a testament to the incredible talent, discipline, and determination of our deaf athletes,” Gufwan said.

“The Commission will continue to advocate for greater support from government and stakeholders to ensure that deaf footballers and all athletes with disabilities receive the recognition and opportunities they deserve. Today, you have made Nigeria proud.”

The championship, organised by the Nigeria Deaf Football Association in collaboration with the West African Deaf Sports Federation, and supported by ECOWAS, featured teams from Nigeria, Gambia, Niger Republic, Liberia, and other West African nations.
