Speaking at a training workshop organised for deaf women,  DWAN chairperson Hellen Beyioku-Alasa said, “We want the government to recognise, support and empower us in our vocation as this would drastically reduce the level of poverty in the country.
“We also want some organisations to partner with us.”
She said the workshop was organised in order to overcome the challenges facing deaf women and for the government to see them as useful in the development of the country.
“We believe that the government cannot do everything alone. Some of us have to help ourselves with something to do. With this training, we can sell something and make money for ourselves. It is for us to contribute our quota to the development of our country.”
Alasa appealed to Nigerians to stop the discrimination against deaf women.
