Dear America, Say No to Donald Dumb

Take it or leave it, America is great. It is very rare to find a mosaic of a nation like the USA. If your tribe, ethnic or religious group is not represented in America, there’s something terribly wrong. So please take this article to the nearest American consulate and ask for your right to be represented in America. America is not perfect, God removed the perfection wand away from man’s reach for reasons best known to him. America has a sordid past, a chequered present and uncertain future.
America’s understanding of the best way to solve its perceived lack of democracy in certain parts of the globe has led to wars. Although it puts money in the pockets of shareholders of arms companies, war destroys life, creates orphans, turn happy mothers into widows and able bodied men and women into zombies or disabled people. Only bullies see no other way of creating a better world order than bringing hell on a hapless people.
But using the ashes from its sordid past, America has built the foundations of liberty by opening its doors to dreamers. From all corners of the world, people answered that call with some living the dream while others thrive on forlorn hopes. Some have been consumed by the call. Nations struggle to copy or clone the American model even when they openly berate it and of late some are being frogmarched into the democratic league with disastrous consequences.
One sordid American past was its role in 400 years of slavery but it redeemed itself by raising abolitionists. The black race, which was at the receiving end of this still suffers varying degrees of denigration today. America has conscience and embracing Barack Obama as the democratic frontrunner nine years ago was the first giant step at redemption. History would judge or absolve Barack Obama beyond the racial prism.
It would appear however, that the politics of who replaces Obama in the White House would determine America’s future. Obama is not eligible for a third term, but his party is and has paraded an array of bright stars one of who is Hilary Rodham Clinton, wife of one of modern America’s most charismatic leaders. With her candidacy, America has a chance to bury another myth – hiding behind the legacy of India, Pakistan and Indonesia among countries that have lived up to the adage – what a man can do, a woman can do better. Lady Clinton is no saint but she is eminently qualified to rally the world behind the fading influence of the American flag.
This piece is not about Hilary Clinton’s qualifications, rather, it is about the frontrunner of the opposition Republican Party, the man known as Donald Trump but who is as Dumb as they come. At first, Trump’s candidature was seen all over the world as a sick joke, another silly quest by a spoilt-rotten boardroom bum to stamp his influence on the political terrain. But gradually, the American society appears to be taking a joker too seriously. Trump has said things that should not be mentioned on the political podium of a rogue nation, from threatening to lock the doors against Muslims to deporting every black or Latino face.
These statements throw caution and decorum overboard but panders to those who believe that the diversity that made America great is the reason they are no longer respected around the world. Trump has insulted religion, broken through racial barriers and even went as far as saying he could commit murder on the streets without losing at the polls! Not an establishment man, Trump has no trump card to tackle America’s $18 trillion debt or how to uplift America’s 47 million poor. He has no plans to engage the 5.8 million American unemployed and has never held a political office. He is a disaster waiting to happen, not just for his own country, but for a fragile globe using nothing but the crude whims of boardroom tactics. How such a man leads not just at the polls but the primaries should be a source of concern for discerning minds – but not his followers.
Electing a redneck rookie like Trump is to unleash Armageddon before its time. It does not look like his supporters understand the huge difference between running a capitalist enterprise and leading people. Global socio-economic and political stability is hinged on knowledge that a ‘normal’ person heads the country whose currency is the global denominator. The standard of world peace is set and sometimes sustained by what an American leader says or does. To have a president with no moral compass and sworn to crude extremes is to play into the waiting arms of global extremist groups led by megalomaniacs that are making our world unsafe. We hope Americans would wake up from their revelry and toss this vermin into the kerb for both their sakes and for the sake of hope for a better and brighter world. To act otherwise is to kill not just the dream but the land of hope.
