Professor Farouk, who stated this at the fourth matriculation ceremony of the institution, said that the university has awarded three major contracts for the construction of lecture theatre which will cost it over N300 million.
He said the university is planning to diversify its sources of funding which will include introduction of some programmes that will increase the university’s internally generated revenue.
“We cannot continue depending on government funding especially looking at the condition of the Nigerian economy today. With the fall in oil prices and the devaluation of the naira and other impacts on the economy, certainly government revenue will go down and that will impact on the allocation of fund from the government to all federal ministries, departments and agencies,” he said.
The university matriculated 760 students for the 2014/15 academic year comprising 637 males and 123 females.
