‘Dearth of skilled artisans in building sector worrisome ‘

He said that artisans and craftsmen constitute an important component of the value chain in housing delivery and essential for the production of well-built, good quality and durable housing on a greater scale across the country.
Mr. Ossi stated this while speaking at the 19th Abuja Housing show organized by FESADAB communications limited in Abuja.
He said that the ministry is using two vocational training centres located in Lagos state to upgrade the skills of this category of tradesmen.
“The ministry recently completed the renovation and upgrading of its facilities at the Harvey road, Yaba-Lagos training centre and a school of Architectural and Building Technicians is being constructed in Kuje, in the FCT.”
He added that efforts are being made to establish six more skills acquisition/ vocational training centres in different parts of the country, as well as undertake a review of the curricula for artisanal and vocational training in conjunction with relevant institutions.
He commended the organizers of the Abuja Housing Show , describing the theme of the 9th edition: ‘Delivery of Affordable Housing, Financing, Building Technology and Land Issues in Nigeria’ as apt  as it highlights one of the several positive steps being taken to pave the way for housing revolution in the country.
Organiser of the Housing Show Festus Adebayo said that the annual show is to raise housing needs awareness for the government and provide a platform for developers and  manufacturers of building materials to come together to exchange ideas in order to develop the sector.
