A non governmental organization under the banner of the Grassroots Mobilizers for Better Nigeria Initiative (GMBNI) has expressed deep shock over the tragic death of 11 Almajiri pupils on Monday following a sand heap collapse in Yardoka village , Kubau local government area of Kaduna State.

The National Chairperson of GMBNI, Ambassador Dr. Fatima Mohammed Goni, in a statement issued in Abuja expressed shock and sadness over the unfortunate incident.

She urged all relevant stakeholders to take urgent measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.

According to Ambassador Goni, “We call on relevant authorities to intensify efforts to safeguard the welfare of Almajiri children by collaborating with volunteer organizations to ensure such incidents do not happen again”.

The statement aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to reform Almajiri education and address out-of-school children under the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education.

She further called on Qur’anic teachers, other Islamic instructors, and parents to remain vigilant about the locations where Almajiri children congregate at all times.

She extended her condolences to the families of the deceased children, their teachers, the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education, and the Kaduna State Government.

In the meantime, the Kaduna State Police Command, through its spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the death of the 11 Almajiri pupils, while seven others are receiving medical attention in a hospital after the sand heap collapsed on them.
