Normalcy has returned to Ja’en Yamma in Gwale LGA of Kano State where angry youths attempted to set ablaze a sacks producing company, Fas Agro, over the death of a worker Muhammad Tukur Adamu.
Adamu died following a fight with a co-worker on the premises of the company on Sunday morning, according to witnesses.
Angered by the development, some thugs from the area attempted to force themselves into the company premises to demand justice for the deceased. This, however, led to the breakdown of law and order as some of the protesters vandalised the company’s equipment and looted valuables, including a motorcycle belonging to a security guard attached to the company.
The quick intervention of the police however saved the situation from further degeneration.
Umar Danladi, a brother to the deceased, said Adamu died after a co-worker beat him to a pulp.
“We want justice for our late brother. He was only trying to separate two others who were fighting.
“The person that beat him was taken to Sharada police station,” Danladi said.
Hafsat Ado, a relative of the deceased said she was shocked by his death at the hands of his co-worker.
“Whoever did this must be made to face the music. He has no enemy amongst us, he was rather trying to make us happy,” she said.
The police spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a statement, confirmed the incident, saying Tukur Adamu was certified dead by doctors at Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital where he was taken.
Kiyawa said the co-worker, James Ismail, has been arrested for culpable homicide and transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.
The police commissioner, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, while calling for calm, assured residents of diligent investigation and prosecution.
Adamu is survived by his mother, wife and two children.
