Following the defection of the incumbent chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Alhaji Adamu Mustapha, from APGA to the ruling APC, the APGA chapter has directed the party’s working committee to embark on membership drive in order to fill the vacuum.

Chapter chairman of APGA in the area, Mr Solomon Umezuruike, who stated this during the party’s stakeholders meeting over the weekend in Gwagwalada, said the defection of the council chairman had not affected or reduced the fortunes of the party in the area.

He said the stakeholders meeting was to brainstorm on how to strengthen the party structures head of the 2019 general elections, stressing that APGA would field a candidate that would perform more than the incumbent chairman as in line with the party’s manifesto.

“It was based on the defection of the council chairman from our party, APGA, to APC that we decided to meet and inform the party’s working committee and see how to strengthen our structures, “ he also said.

He said the party had empowered the committee to go to their respective wards and meet with some of the party members to fill the vacuum in order for the party to remain intact.

Umezuruike said the incumbent chairman had performed 60 percent of APGA manifesto handed to him in terms of payment of salaries and infrastructural development.

Reacting, the special adviser on media and publicity to the council chairman, Usman Baba Lado, said the APGA chairman and his faction were on suspension, hence, he could not speak for the party.

“It was on that premise that after several efforts to resolve the crisis among the two factions did not yield result, the council chairman and his cabinet decided to dump APGA for APC,” he said.
