Kano-born politician and businessman Alhaji AbdulSalam AbdulKarim Zaura — popularly known as AA Zaura — has dismissed rumours suggesting he plans to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Zaura told supporters and journalists that his commitment to the party has remained consistent over the years.
Responding to the speculation through his senior media aide, Hassan Sardauna, Zaura said the claims were incorrect and did not reflect his position.
In a statement on Saturday, Sardauna quoted him as saying: “I want to categorically inform you that the allegations are not true. They are unfounded. I want to assure everyone that neither I nor my political associates have considered leaving the APC.”
Sardauna also highlighted Zaura’s long-standing contributions to the party’s growth and political structures in Kano State.
Quoting his principal, he said: “When it comes to loyalty and contributions to the APC in Kano State, we have played our part. Only a few individuals, such as former governor and former APC national chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, have contributed more.”
The media aide further referenced the sacrifices made by Zaura’s political camp in efforts to strengthen the party: “We have consistently supported the party, whether in government or not. We contested for governorship and later accepted the senatorial ticket for Kano Central. We have also participated actively in previous political cycles before joining the APC.”
He listed various interventions attributed to Zaura across the state: “We procured 44 vehicles for the 44 local government areas and additional vehicles for the three senatorial districts. We also secured offices for party use and supported numerous individuals in need. Our presence extends to hospitals and community initiatives.”
Sardauna noted that Zaura continues to fund humanitarian activities statewide: “Recently, he provided infant supplies to families, supported rehabilitation programmes for vulnerable youths, and assisted patients by helping offset medical bills. Several individuals requiring urgent support have also been assisted.”
According to the statement, these efforts underscore Zaura’s dedication to both the party and the wider community, making any claims of defection unlikely.
It added that Zaura remains a committed APC member who supports the party’s leadership at state and national levels, including President Bola Tinubu and former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. The camp emphasised its cordial relations with other party stakeholders.
Sardauna reaffirmed that the rumours circulating about Zaura’s possible defection are false, describing them as “a misunderstanding with no basis in reality.”
