He singled out Kano Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso and his Sokoto counterpart Aliyu Wamakko for bashing, describing them as undemocratic desperados who parachuted into the All Progressives Congress (APC) and hijacked its structures from the founders.

Kwankwaso and Wamakko are among the five governors who ditched the ruling party late last year.
Their defection set the stage for 37 House of Representatives members, who cross carpeted in December, and 11 senators as well as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who also joined APC in the past week.
Maku, who spoke yesterday in Abuja during a news briefing on the outcome of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, said the defections would make the PDP healthier as those who left were causing headaches in the party.
He said the defectors had in the last one year turned the PDP into an object of ridicule, abusing it and making it look so bad. He accused them of having “over-sized ego.”
Maku said Kwankwaso and Wamakko were already causing huge problems in the APC by hijacking its structures in their states.
“Even within this short period since some of these elements left PDP, they’ve caused significant problems in the new party they ran to. They’re already causing a huge problem there,” he said.
“There is already an explosion in APC in Kano because Kwankwaso went straight and took over a party he wasn’t part of, insisted that he must be the leader and sacked those who formed the party.
“You go to Sokoto again, Wamakko went immediately and hijacked the party from those who formed APC in the place; people who dissolved their own parties to form a political party that would compete with PDP.
“Even from the point of view of justice, you were looking for democracy and you saw nothing wrong in going to another party and hijacking the structure.
“So, you can see they’re not democrats. These are serious desperados who believe that unless they’re in charge, nobody should be and they’re not democrats.
“If you’re a democrat and you join a new party, you’ll work your way through and give confidence to the people in the new party. But they went straight, hijacked the structure, sacked those who formed the APC in Kano and Sokoto.”
The minister said because its leadership allowed for the sidelining of its founders, the APC lacked principle, programme, convention and ideological focus.
He said the PDP was the only solid multi-national, multi-religious and multi-ethnic political party which did not have the extremists found in other parties.
“The same problem (of hijacking party structures) is going on in Adamawa and most of the places today. APC has two structures: the structures of the original founders and those who are good joiners, who are struggling hard to displace those who formed the party,” he said.
“And what we’ve seen in recent times is that because APC does not have a principle or ideology, they sidelined those who struggled to form the party because of the new entrants.
“This, for me, is not how political parties are formed. Political parties are formed by believers who control the soul of the party even as new people are coming.
“So, I want to urge journalists to begin to monitor these movements more so as some of them have been moving for years now. They’ve not stopped. They’re like the Fulani nomads; they move from one party to another without shame. It shouldn’t be something we should cherish.
“Leaders must have some stability, and that’s what the people lack. If you look at  people now being celebrated in APC, they’re the same people APC was attacking in PDP before. When they’re in PDP, the APC saw them as monsters and was abusing them. But now that they’ve crossed over to APC, they celebrate them now as the new leaders.”
