Although I have to admit that every individual is free to join the party he feels can realise his ambition, but, despite this admission, I have been pushed by actions of some of political punditocracies to clear people’s mind with respect to the recent political developments. Simply because the usual happened, some unashamedly jumped up the gun to decide the 2019 elections. More appalling was, some people went off a cliff to liken it to the gale of defections we saw in 2015. For me, comparing the current scenario with events that followed the 2015 election is offhand and uninformed conclusion. Depressed by these actions, I felt the need to make clarification. You can’t compare this defection with the one in 2015. Against the backdrop of this inflammatory rhetoric, Buhari will coast home to victory in 2019. In 2015, contrary to what we are witnessing currently, people decamped from People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressive Congress (APC) after all odds turned in favour of President Muhammadu Buhari.
In addition, if we can recall, since before the defections, President Buhari has already been projected as the winner of that election by series of fair and objective online polls. Although loosing party members to an opposition may pose serious threat to any party’s election chance, or to be specific to A. P. C’s re-election bid, but this could affect its chances in other elections. While in contrast to Buhari’s case, this wouldn’t cause adverse effects to his second term ambition.
Moreover, if we subject all possible presidential bidders to a thorough scrutiny, no one among them can stand face to face with Buhari when it comes to integrity. Why so is right is, from the way President Buhari is leading this country, especially his infrastructural achievements like, dualization of Kano/Katsina road, Kano/Damaturu/Maiduguri express road, Kaduna eastern by-pass, resumption of construction of Kano/Jigawa/Azare/Yobe/Maiduguri express road, rehabilitation of Enugu-Port Harcourt express way in Abia State. I don’t think the defectors are capable to turn the table against Buhari.
Additionally, in view of the emerging happenings, President Buhari’s wind that used to catapult people to win their respective seats will no longer be useful in 2019. My beforehand foresight is the probable extinction of party election in 2019. People will vote solely on the basis of aspirant personal character. Lastly, while the “Anti-corruption Champion of Africa” is busy working round the clock to fulfill his campaign pledge, however, the main constraint that occupies PDP’s mind is how to shop a sellable candidate that can match Buhari’s incorruptibility. Buhari has been elected to fight corruption, and numerous people were happy and extolled his anti-corruption stance.
