“The film industry is considered a critical sector for national economic prosperity and for the effective projection and preservation of national identity by the world’s leading economies,” said the minister of Communication and Information, Professor Dora Akunyili. She also said the film industry is one of the key sectors of the Nigerian economy while stressing the need for Nigerian producers to try and balance the plot of their movies with the good things that are happening in Nigeria rather than dwell on the negative things and blow it out of proportion.

In her words: “We have to tell our own story our own way and not hear our story from others being said in a negative way by the outside world.” The Spanish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Angel Lasada Fermandez in his speech during the occasion said he agreed that Nigeria was a great country and had great and beautiful potentials which have not yet been showcased to the world.

Del York is confident that with the right human capital base, Nigeria will be able to develop a globally competitive film industry. It also said the reason behind its decision to bring the world renowned NYFA to Nigeria was to introduce Nigeria’s movie makers and movie enthusiast to the intensive world class training programme in a most conducive environment.

Speaking at the event, Nollywood heavyweight Stephanie Okereke said the youths were looking for direction and this whole concept of bringing the training is all about giving them a sense of direction and hope.

The forthcoming training programme will horn the skills of Nigerian movie makers and to transform the raw talent of interested movie enthusiasts in the country. The successful holding of this training exercise will be followed by a world class shoot of a wholly Nigerian movie that will see the best Nigerian hands in film production working together to accomplish this innovative movie task.

The New York Film Academy stands out as the most preferred training ground by top Hollywood actors, actresses and directors such as Steven Spielberg, Susan Sarandon and Kevin Kline. New York Film Academy is the best hands on film training school in the world.
