This was revealed during plenary when the deputy chairman of conference Professor Bolaji Akinyemi announced to delegates that the secretariat had received a copy of the petition. However, a delegate representing Labour Party, Dan Iwuanyanwu said after a recent move by aides to disrupt sittings at plenary, he found out that aides employed by conference secretariat are the ones instigating drivers and aides of delegates.
Speaking on unpaid allowances, Iwuanyanwu said “some of the empty seats you see in this auditorium are those that have been driven from their hotel accommodation” because they had not been paid and hotels collect their payments up front. He said for six weeks, they have not received a kobo but were attending because of patriotism and the need to sacrifice for the development of the nation.
Akinyemi said even the leadership of the conference had also not been paid and admitted that government was yet to pay the allowance.
“You will notice that the Assistant Secretary, Finance and Administration is not always here, every day he reports to the office of the Accountant General of the Federation.”
