A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Chief Evance Ochuko Ivwurie, has criticised Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for what he called political hypocrisy—opposing President Bola Tinubu’s policies while secretly seeking to join the APC.

Ivwurie, a former state lawmaker and commissioner, accused the governor of double standards, saying, “His actions reflect desperation and a profound lack of integrity.”

He warned Oborevwori against dragging Delta State into unnecessary conflicts with the federal government, particularly over Tinubu’s state of emergency declaration in Rivers State.

“It is irresponsible for Governor Oborevwori to involve Delta State in a frivolous lawsuit against a constitutional provision empowering the president to act in times of crisis,” he said.

Ivwurie also questioned the governor’s alleged secret dealings with the APC, asking, “If he is committed to the PDP, why is he manoeuvring to join the APC?”

He urged the governor to support the president’s stabilisation efforts rather than risk Delta’s economic fortunes, which rely on federal oil revenue.

Efforts to get a reaction from Governor Oborevwori through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, were unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls. However, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Director General of the state’s Orientation and Communications Bureau, dismissed the allegations, stating that they did not warrant a response from the governor.
