Delta community denies land grabbing allegations against traditional ruler

The Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom in Delta State has dismissed recent reports accusing the traditional ruler, H.R.M Obi(Dr.) Ifechukwude Aninshi Okonjo II, of land grabbing, kidnapping, and other criminal activities.

The kingdom strongly refuted these claims, describing them as a malicious attempt to tarnish the reputation of the Obi.

A statement from the kingdom, signed by Prince Ifeakanachukwu Emordi, the Palace Secretary, clarified that the allegations were part of a smear campaign aimed at disrupting the peace and integrity of the Ogwashi-Uku community.

The reports had falsely accused the Obi of land-grabbing, arming killer squads, involvement in kidnapping, and even a past conviction for theft overseas before he became king.

The statement attributed the false narrative to certain members of the community, some of whom are currently facing criminal charges in court.

These individuals, the kingdom suggested, are behind the fabricated story.

In response, the palace emphasised that the Obi is a highly educated monarch, holding a Doctorate in Economics and History, and is dedicated to ensuring peace and good governance in the kingdom.

The statement further noted that the Obi is working hard to challenge entrenched interests that seek to disrupt the community’s well-being and seize control of its assets.

The Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom reiterated that the allegations were entirely false and promised to take legal action against those responsible for spreading the misinformation.

The Obi reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, and lawfulness, and welcomed any investigations into the matter by relevant authorities.
