Delta inaugurates committee on GBV

The Delta State Government has inaugurated the State Technical Working Committee (STWC) on Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

City & Crime reports that the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Kingsley Emu, who inaugurated the 20-member committee in Asaba, said that besides women, men were also reportedly been sexually assaulted, urging the committee not to be biased in their approach to matters brought before them.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Mrs Oghenekevwe Agas, said the committee was established as a result of the directive of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs to collate and input issues of sexual and gender-based violence in Nigeria.

Oghenekevwe, who is the chairman of the committee, noted that sexual and gender-based violence deserved more attention as it was a social issue that affected men, women and children.
