Delta police commissioner Zanna Ibrahim has blamed the media for heightening the scale of insecurity and presenting the country as unsafe before the international community.

Ibrahim made the remark when the executive of the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) led by the Vice Chairman, Comrade Patrick Ochei paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Asaba Tuesday.

He said current frightening security situation the country is contending with was a fallout of unfounded reports and irresponsible journalism thriving in the media.

The CP identified objective journalism to entail the capability to address the challenges of secession, recession, restructuring, resource control, ethno-religious conflicts, tribal animosity and racial discrimination, the multidimensional challenges confronting the nation.

He solicited for useful information from all in tracking down of criminals as joint effort was needed  to rid  the society of crime, while reminding the media of its professional role as whistle blowers to make the society uncomfortable for hoodlums and corrupt individuals.

Earlier, the Vice Chairman of the Delta State Council Comrade Patrick Ochei, who represented the Chairman, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu said the visit was not only to seek ways of partnership in making the society safe for all but also to commend the command for its roles in ensuring that a credible election was held to elect new executive to run the Union.

The NUJ leader pledged the readiness of the Union to ensure professionalism by its members in the discharge of their duties, adding that the task of objective reportage and patriotism was not negotiable among media practitioners.
