Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has disclosed plans to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) after consultations with political stakeholders in the region.
Speaking on AriseTV, Hon. Gloria Okolugbo, Nwoko’s Director of Communications, revealed that the senator’s decision stems from discontent with his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and its internal conflicts and inefficiencies.
“Senator Nwoko’s commitment to Delta North’s development has been hindered by factionalisation within the PDP. Projects like the Okpai IPP electricity initiative and the Ogwashi-Uku dam have suffered due to the party’s disorganisation,” Okolugbo stated.
The senator has been in a running battle with the state governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, with the leadership of the party in the state perceived to be unwilling to intervene.

The senator’s alignment with the APC, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is seen as a strategic move to foster collaboration with the federal government for the benefit of Delta North.
Dr. Michael Nwoko, Chief of Staff to the senator, hinted at the imminent defection in a message, saying, “Fingers crossed; it will happen.”
Reports indicate that stakeholders consulted by Nwoko have largely supported his decision, citing the potential for enhanced development in the district. Political analysts predict that the defection could weaken the PDP’s influence in Delta State while strengthening the APC’s presence.
In a related development, the leadership of the PDP in Ethiope Federal Constituency has demanded the declaration of the seat of Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu at the House of Representatives vacant following her defection to the APC.
