Meanwhile, barely two weeks after authorities of the FCT Administration marked about 850 illegal structures for demolition on No.16 road in 3rd Avenue, Gwarinpa, the Department of Development Control last week commenced demolition exercise in the area.
Illegal settlers in the area were seen evacuating their property in order not to lose them.
The Director, Department of Development Control, Muktar Galadima, explained that the exercise became imperative to provide alternative access and solve escalating traffic congestion in the area.
Some of the structures that were pulled down, he said, included about 15 permanent illegal structures, as well as worship places, some of which also served as residential buildings.
Daily Trust also learnt that the removal of illegal structures on road corridors and other areas would also be carried out in Kubwa, Apo and Gudu.
