The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has said despite two months of a cleanup exercise in Kuje Area Council, the demolition of illegal structures is not up to 20 per cent.

The Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement to the Minister of the FCT, Ikharo Attah, stated this at the ongoing cleanup of Pasali community in the area council.

He said it had been discovered that the entire abattoir area had been converted to residential, noting that it was unacceptable, warning all those who built on the abattoir corridor to start packing.

He explained that, “Some parts of it were sold for places of worship, filling stations, gas stations, houses and others. We are reclaiming by removing everyone on the road corridor. This place has also been a very good place for criminal hideouts.”

On compensation to owners of economic trees, he said, “The council’s chairman has agreed to pay compensation to all those who planted trees here because some of them need to be compensated. We have to pay them compensation.”
