Demolition: Residents of Lugbe village want developer restrained

In a suit No. CV/4270/12, filed by Tijani Ismaila Olabode, and 10 others, the plaintiffs are asking the Abuja High Court to restrain a developer, Anarock Global Concept Ltd., from continuing on-going work or demolishing any house or structure at the said village pending the determination of the suit.
Joined in the suit against the developer are the FCT Minister, FCTA, Director, FCT Development Control, and the court had ordered the parties to maintain status quo pending the hearing and determination of the suit.
The plaintiffs however stated that while the suit was pending they were surprised to see FCT officials marking their houses for demolition while the developer mobilised their staff to their village to commence construction work.
When contacted, Director, FCT Development Control Department, Yahaya Yusuf, said while only indigenes are recognised by government the bulk of the non-indigenes have taken it as a right to claim ownership.
He said the non-indigenes are occupying the place illegally adding that if the place has been rightly allocated to a developer who has a proper title then he has the right to commence development on the said land.
The case has been adjourned by the Abuja High Court till 11th November, 2013.
