The wife of the Commandant, Depot Nigerian Army, Mrs Applonia Ndidi Ezugwu, has commissioned renovated health facilities and new classrooms built for the Chindit cantonment community.
The projects were executed by Mrs Ezugwu as part of her contribution for the improvement of the welfare of wives of serving personnel living in the Barracks, while the new classrooms were donated to the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) Nursery/Primary School.
Mrs Ezugwu said the execution of the projects was informed by the fact that the existing facilities at the cantonment’s clinic and the school could not carter for the population of the Barracks.
Wife of the Chief of Army Staff, Mrs Umma Khulsum Tukur Buratai, described the facilities as contribution to national development.
She said; “I am highly delighted to share in this joy of improving the health of women and children in the cantonment. This clearly shows that NAOWA is alive and very active in Zaria. I am glad to inform this august gathering that the multi-million naira ultra-modern NAOWA Specialist Hospital, Abuja, which is my pet project, is on the verge of completion and will soon be commissioned.”
Mrs Buratai urged army officers in Zaria to encourage their wives to join NAOWA for the association to achieve its goals.
