The conference, which was tagged National Reform and Constitutional Conferences in Nigeria, will also suggest ways for the current administration of Muhammadu Buhari to run an ideal federal system of government.
In his welcome address, the co-chairman of the conference and Head of Department of Political Science, IBB University, Dr Victor Egwemi, noted that Nigeria as a nation was faced with a lot of difficulties in the area of constitution since the amalgamation of northern and southern protectorates.
He disclosed that the event was convened to give academics the opportunity to come together and discuss Nigeria’s constitution, looking at what national conferences organised by the various past administrations sought to achieve and their areas of failure.
He observed that Nigeria had organised various types of national conferences under different names, yet it strives to have an agreeable constitution.
Professor Lucky O. Ovwasa of the Department of Political Science, Federal University, Lokoja, in his keynote address, said all the national reforms and constitutional conferences organised before now were not borne out of genuine intention.
