It is often said that nothing kills an idea whose time has come and that whatever is considered as an ideal is usually very indestructible no matter how negative elements try to suppress this through a series of wile and manipulations.

These sayings describe the developmental strides ongoing in Kano State currently being championed by Governor Kabir Yusuf popularly known as ‘Gida Gida’. For the governor, the overall development of Kano State and its indigenes as well as residents alongside the geographical space is non-negotiable.

To actualize this however, a well articulated document for achieving this has been well articulated in the policy document of the Kwankwasiyya Movement being midwife by the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

It must however be stated that the process of modernisation of Kano began with the tenure of the administration of Kwankwaso and Governor Yusuf has further carried on with the developmental trajectory which many observers are lauding as saying it is capable of making Kano, the economic hub of not only Northern Nigeria, but also the West African sub-region.

All these efforts are currently being frustrated by the antics of the opposition elements, especially, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) who have continued to use all manner of subterfuge, sabotage and shenanigans to arm twist and derail it.

The approach of the state government is two-pronged, which are all round development of the residents of the state via education, vocational skill acquisition for economic self-sufficiency of the average masses to be able to compete with his peers anywhere in the world.

The second approach is massive investments in infrastructural assets spanning all the nooks and crannies of the state with a view to not only bring aesthetics but also to support the living condition of the teeming residents of the state.

In the area of infrastructure development, it is to the credit of the former Minister of Defence who is compass directing the affairs of the Kwankwassiyya Movement that a workable blueprint was not only developed but was also set in motion for implementation.

To the governor, infrastructure development must go together with human capital development through mass acquisition of quality education, skills development with the intent of making the average citizens self-sufficient and financially stable.

He started this during his two term stint as governor of the state with the hope of drafting high level membership of the movement that succeeded him in office to continue on such a line.

The development witnessed under Kwankwaso was frittered away in the eight years misrule of the immediate past government of the state under the leadership of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje who merely concentrated on feasting on the resources of the state along with members of his family.

It is gratifying to note that all that has changed since the coming of Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf who has since commenced work from where his leader left it almost nine years ago.

In my interactions with the commissioner of education, Hon Umar Haruna Doguwa, said Gov. Abba has declared state of emergency in the education sector about Fortnite ago.
He said the governor ambition is to make Kano state a reference point to other states in the country in the area of education. He said so far, the governor has spent over five 5 billion naira in the constructions and renovations of classroom blocks with numerous plans on ground to uplift the education sector.

And in the area of environment, the main City metropolis hitherto littered with refuse dumps has been cleared via Refuse Management and Sanitation Board, REMASAB, the agency which was scrapped during the administration of Abdullahi Ganduje.

According to the Deputy Managing Director, Hon Lamir Mukhtar Hassan and his colleague, Senior Special Reporter, Hon Suleiman Mustafa Mainasara, the dou said the governor gave the agency a marching order that Kano must be kept clean all day round.

There is no doubt, under Governor Abba, Kano State is now going back to the days of serious governmental strides with a lot of activities going to fast track the progress and development of the state.

All numerous policies and programmes that are endeared to the Kanawas are not only being resuscitated, they are being aggressively being implemented for the benefits of the people of the state.
