NDLEA destroys 6.7 hectares of cannabis farms in Edo

The Edo State Command of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed three cannabis farms in the state.

The state NDLEA commander, Dr. Mitchel Ofuyeju, disclosed this in Benin in an interview with journalists.

He said the destroyed three cannabis sativa farms, measuring 6.711192 hectares, have an estimated yield of 16,777.98 kg when harvested.

According to him, the farms were located in the Ugbodo Forest of Ovia North East Local Government.

Mitchel further disclosed that the command’s prosecution unit also made significant strides in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking.

He said in October alone, the command secured the conviction of eleven persons involved in drug-related offences.

Mitchel added that the command is prosecuting 121 pending cases at the Federal High Court in Benin City.

He said the Command also provides counseling to 22 individuals with drug abuse challenges, as part of the agency’s commitment to drug demand reduction.
