Game developers have said the board games have the potential to create jobs and spread the culture of Nigeria abroad.

At the African Board Game Convention (AB Con) in Abuja recently, founder of KayCee Games, Kenechukwu Ogbuagu said, “Board games have proven to be a great contribution in relieving stress and in recent times proven to also be more than a decent source of livelihood providing massive employment opportunities for young people.”

He said the board game industry poses a huge opportunity in helping to address the unemployment rate in Nigeria especially among young people and likewise serve as a made in Nigeria tool that could be consumed globally while telling our stories and our cultures.

Zainab Haruna who co-hosted the event said people are not familiar with board games of African content and prefer those which they have always known such as Scrabble and Chess. 

A participant at the event, John Matum spoke about his experience: “it was interactive, fun and I was impressed by the ingenuity of young Nigerians, and I was proud to have people from other cultures try to learn about Nigeria,” he said.

The convention which brought together youth from across Nigeria and other countries  featured traditional pen-and-paper, board, and card games, including role-playing games, and strategy games.
