The United Kingdom (UK) Department for International Development (DFID)-funded Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL) programme has presented newly developed education policy documents to the Kaduna State Government to guide intervention and investment, as well as enhance the education sector for optimal result.

Technical Director of PERL, Mark Walker, who presented the documents to the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Ja’afaru Sani, in Kaduna, said the documents: Inclusive Education Policy, Quality Assurance Policy and Education Sector Strategic Plan, were meant to ensure delivery of quality education to children, especially girls.

Walker revealed that the inputs were harvested after series of policy dialogue at the state and community levels.

He said, “During the dialogue sessions, the citizens and the stakeholders, comprising the civil society, experts and the media made critical observations on the way forward; some of which are captured in the documents.”

Walker explained that ensuring development in the education sector did not end in the production of policy documents, but in the full implementation of the policies for maximum results, and therefore urged the government to fully implement the documents by leveraging on the existing civil society, media and citizens platforms to provide the needed support in ensuring their success.

The commissioner, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Kande Bage, thanked DFID for the support and assured the PERL team of the government’s commitment in implementing the policies in the documents.

Sani said, “With these documents, the state will be well guided in intervention and investment that will bring the desired results.”
