Many Nigerians suffer from diarrhoea because they lack access to safe water.
Managing Director of Society For Family Health, Sir Bright Ekweremadu, disclosed this in Lagos during the organization’s launch of WaterGuard Plus.
He said 41percent of Nigerians  lacks access to safe water and about 2,300 people die from diarrhoea and cholera per day globally adding that 2,195 children die of the diseases per day which outnumber  deaths from AIDS, malaria, and measles combined.
He said currently Nigeria is one of the countries contribute to two thirds of the global population without access to water and  that is unacceptable.
He said Society for Family Health began providing point of use water purification products with the introduction of WaterGuard in 2004.
According to him, Water Guard Plus is a product that is strategically designed to address the need for clean water in a simple, easily usable format that makes water safe for drinking and, consequently, contributes to meeting key Maternal and Neo-natal Health (MNCH) deliverables.
“This will reduce the rates of diarrhoeal related illnesses and deaths with the ripple effect of better school attendance for children who might have lost school days due to illness and parents who can have more productive days to pursue income generating activities thereby interrupting the circle of poverty” he said.
