The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has said increase in the use of digital technology by SMEs is important for Nigeria toward gaining a fair share in the export market.

The President of ACCI, Dr Al-Mujtaba Abubakar, during a press briefing to announce preparation for the 17th Abuja International Trade Fair yesterday, stated that digitization offered a range of opportunities for SMEs to improve performance, spur innovation and enhance productivity.

Abubakar, noted that SMEs could compete with larger firms, “reflecting economies of scale, lower operation and transaction costs and reduced information asymmetries.”

He added that the emergence of increasingly powerful digital technologies and digital infrastructures has transformed business processes, organizations and corporate culture with new innovation processes.

“The 17th Abuja International Trade Fair (AITF) scheduled to hold between 30th September to 9th October 2022, had since inception served Nigeria as a trusted global trade destination and a potential market for over 50,000 consumers,” he said.

He said over 250 local and foreign businesses have expressed interest in the fair which provides a global platform where businessmen, entrepreneurs, service providers and many others converge.

The FCT Minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, represented by his Secretary, Economic Planning, Revenue Generation, Agboola Dabri, said President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to partake in the event to give it a boost.
