The petition was presented to the Borno State House of Assembly by the member representing Dikwa State Constituency, Mohammed Zakariya, on behalf of the petitioners.
The petitioners complained that the district head has abused his office by “engaging in high-handedness, extortion, revocation of property, as well as conducting illegal land transactions.”
Zakariya urged members of the Assembly to intervene in the matter as the petitioners are appealing that the issue be treated as a matter of “urgent public importance” before it degenerates into a crisis, going by the volatile nature of communal disputes.
The Speaker of the House, Goni Modu, referred the case to the joint House Committee on Public Petitions and Local Government Affairs, which has been mandated to submit its report within two weeks.
