Malam Nasir El-Rufa’i, the Kaduna state governor, is in the war front with different forces in the state. He is in conflict with the civil servants and by extention the labour union over many issues including payment of salaries of the staff at both the local government and the state after his verification of staff in his bid to rid the state ghost workers.
He is confronting the religious leaders of the state because of his bill on religious matters to stand on check and balance armed at sensitizing the realms of religion in the state in which generate constructive criticism of his administration in both Christianity and Islamic religion leaders.
His bill of street begging has provoked the handicap that is physically challenged people in the state. His move to demolish houses that have encroached into schools and hospital premises has generated anguish amongst the residents of Zaria and Kaduna. But the most significant is the issue of non-payment of salaries which seem to defy logic and reason.
This particular issue has lingered for over ten months now and the victims are in serious in quagmire with their families and dependents suffering the brunt of the government’s endless verification exercise.
Already, traditional rulers in the state have been denied their salaries amid speculation of impending rationalization of traditional institutions.
Consequently, a section of civil servants, traditional rulers and politicians are apprehensive and antagonistic to the governor. As one of his teaming admirers I will continue to advise his government in areas and issues that needed their urgent attention. Governor El-Rufai should urgently ensure prompt payment of workers’ salaries including the outstanding wages. He should also make his administration people friendly.
