The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) has called on journalists and media organisations to intensify scrutiny of government policies and programmes to ensure the full implementation of Nigeria’s disability inclusion commitments made at the 2025 Global Disability Summit (GDS) in Berlin, Germany.

Speaking at a one-day media roundtable for some selected journalists in Abuja, the national president of the JONAPWD, Abdullahi Aliyu Usman, represented by the programme officer, Bukunmi Adejumo, said disability issues continued to receive limited attention in public discourse despite the country’s growing population of persons with disabilities.

She explained that the Global Disability Summit is the world’s largest platform dedicated to advancing the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities, bringing together governments, United Nations agencies, civil society and organisations of persons with disabilities to drive commitments on disability-inclusive development and humanitarian action.
