The Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Northern Nigeria Disabled Forum (NNDF), Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Abdulkarim has urged the federal government to offer five per cent employment in all its agencies to disabled persons. 

The BOT chair made the call while briefing newsmen during the NNDF meeting on security challenges facing Northern Nigeria in Kano. 

He said that the call became necessary as people with disabilities could contribute to the growth and development of the country. 

“The state and federal governments should look at persons with disabilities and implement five per cent employment slots in every parastatal.” 

Umar-Abdulkarim said that most people with disabilities had their degrees and masters from different universities. 

“We will offer prayers to ensure adequate security is maintained in all the troubling states across the country. 

“Our forum can equally make contributions to see that our country gets rid of criminal activities such as terrorism, all manners of unwanted killings as a result of unemployment among teeming youths. 

“This has led many youths today to behave irrationally which is against the norms of the society”, he said. 

The President of the Forum, Comrade Yerima Suleiman, said that the meeting focused on the security challenges facing Northern Nigeria. 

Suleiman said that the forum would work with other disabled people by teaching them different skills while those who have small-scale businesses would be taught how to enhance their businesses so as to bring to the end street begging.
