Hundreds of disabled persons marched to the Adamawa State Government House in Yola yesterday, protesting alleged neglect by the state government.

The protesting members of the Association of Persons Living with Disability (PLWD) alleged that the Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration had sidelined them after enjoying massive support from them in the election.

The association had given the state government a week ultimatum to redress the alleged failure to fulfill the campaign promises made to them.

Chairman of the association, Eng Sani Sabo, said the disabled persons had voted for Fintiri en mass in the 2019 governorship election in anticipation of reciprocal treatment but the governor refused to meet with them let alone consider their members for political appointments.

He noted that the government had reneged on an agreement  under which his members supported Governor Fintiri’s election bid.

The Chief of Staff, Adamawa State Government House, Professor Maxwell Gidado, who received the protesters, urged them to exercise patience  and commended them for their peaceful conduct.

He noted their contribution to the electoral victory of Governor Fintiri and assured them that the administration would not disappoint them.

“This is the end of the year, the governor is fully engaged with a lot of activities that need his attention.

“But we promise to formally see your executives. Because of COVID-19 protocol. we cannot see you all,” he said.
