Disadvantaged groups in education, including school age children, need to be empowered with ICT skills to enable them to thrive in a competitive world, the founder and executive director of KIEK Foundation, Mrs. Ebele Iyiegbu, has said.

She disclosed this during the grand finale/award ceremony of the Rural Area Children in ICT (RACT-In-ICT) held at the Government Secondary School, Kabusa, Abuja.

She said ICT is important to children’s learning in a competitive environment.

“I am elated to offer ICT skills to children which will over time open them up to limitless opportunities. We are confident that some of them will become some of the biggest technopreneurs to come out of Africa,” she said.

Being the first in its series, the 12-day RACT-In-ICT programme was designed by the KIEK Foundation to empower rural children with ICT skills needed to thrive in a hyper-competitive world. A total of 61 children acquired computer knowledge and skills at the programme.
