Disaster Management: Time for action – Humanitarian minister

Hajiya Sa’adiya Umar Farouq, Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development

Minister, Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouk, has said it is time to translate the call for Disaster Risk Reduction into action and depart from the normal rhetoric of making international days with speeches.

She said this on Saturday in Abuja during the fire exit and evacuation drill exercise in commemoration of the 2020 international day of disaster risk reduction.

She said the theme “Disaster Risk Governance” was a reflection of the Ministry’s focus in strengthening the existing strategies for disaster risk reduction and to facilitate the development of new ones where there are gaps in line with international best practices.

Farouk said the Ministry organized a simulated fire exit drill which focuses on raising awareness among the public and private organizations as well as mitigating the risks of fire especially in the high rising.
