A security guard, dismissed from a residence in the Asokoro district of Abuja for negligence, has allegedly led a gang of robbers to the home of his former employer. 

The FCT Police Command said the incident occurred late last month, but the suspects were arrested recently.

During the raid, a security guard identified as Ishaku Marcus was reportedly strangled to death. 

According to the command, the suspects subsequently carted away jewellery, laptops, an undisclosed amount of cash, assorted wrappers, and a silver Toyota Camry.

The FCT Police Commissioner, CP Miller Dantawaye, confirmed the arrest of two principal suspects, including the dismissed guard, in connection with the crime. 

He noted that the investigation followed a formal complaint regarding the robbery.

According to CP Dantawaye, the suspects killed the guard on duty before making away with the vehicle and other valuables. 

He said following the report, operatives of the FCT Police Command’s “Scorpion Squad” launched an intelligence-led operation to apprehend the perpetrators.

The operation, conducted between February 12 and 19, 2026, led to the arrest of Amaechi Edemba and Kelechi Nwokoro. 

According to the command, preliminary investigations revealed that Nwokoro was the former employee who had been dismissed in January 2026 for negligence of duty.

Nwokoro allegedly conspired with Edemba and recruited four additional accomplices from Nasarawa State to execute the robbery.

“Leveraging his prior knowledge of the premises, he disabled the CCTV surveillance system and cut off the electricity supply before leading the armed gang into the residence,” the command alleged.

The commissioner added that when the suspects were confronted by the guard, Ishaku Marcus, they overpowered and strangled him before proceeding with the theft.

“Upon their arrest, the stolen vehicle and other exhibits were recovered. Efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the remaining members of the gang, who are currently at large,” the CP said.

Commending the officers for their professionalism, the commissioner urged members of the public to ensure they profile domestic staff with the police before granting them employment.
