A 40-year-old dispatch rider, Philip Samson, has been arrested for allegedly bolting away with $45,000, about N40.5 million, belonging to a firm in Lagos.

 Sources said the dispatch man had been in the employment of the company for 15 years before the incident.

 A police source said the dispatch man discovered that some of the jumbo size parcels given to him by the management for delivery to a client contained foreign currency.

 The dispatch rider was later arrested in his village in Kogi State where he had gone to hide with the money.

The source said that the suspect, having secured the trust of his employer, set in motion plans to run away with their money.

 The source said the opportunity presented itself a few weeks ago when his boss handed over a big envelope for onward delivery as usual only for him to bolt away with the money, which the police put at $45,000.

 Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest, said it was the company which lodged a complainant at the command when they couldn’t track the dispatch man.

 Hundeyin said, “A complaint was received that a company’s dispatch rider absconded with a parcel containing $45,000, money meant for office use.

 “Investigation led to the arrest of the suspect, one Philip Samson ‘m’ aged 40 who had been in the employ of the company for 13 years and recovered the stolen money at Anpka area of Kogi State where he ran to. The suspect has been charged to court.”
