Displaced families get nutritional input support in Borno

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources in Borno State yesterday distributed nutritional input support to 10,110 vulnerable households in Maiduguri.

The exercise, which took place at the Bakassi IDP camp is meant to fill the nutritional gap of displaced persons.

Speaking, the state coordinator of the ministry, Alhaji Bukar Musa, said the selected bio-fortified crops distributed to the beneficiaries will be grown at the homesteads and backyard gardens to tackle micronutrients deficiencies.

He said apart from ensuring food security, authorities will also bridge the nutrient gap by providing crops with bioavailable micronutrients in their edible parts to vulnerable persons.

Seedlings and seeds of maize, pawpaw, orange sweet potato, tomato, pepper, Ugwu, as well as growth enhancer, organic pesticide and customised bags were given to each beneficiary.

An official of the Borno State Ministry of Agriculture, Mustapha Bukar said extension officers will be deployed to assist the beneficiaries on how best to grow the seedlings given to them.
