Displaced persons at Teachers’ Village and Bakassi camps, Maiduguri, Borno State have complained of delayed distribution and inadequate food rations.

They lodged the complaints during a visit by the Director-General National Emergency Management Agency NEMA Alhaji Mustapha Habib to the camps.

A woman, who spent 10 years at Teachers’ Village camp said families were suffering because of inadequate supplies.

Bakassi camp mainly houses displaced persons from Monguno, Marte, Gwoza, Guzamala and Nganzai LGAs while Teachers’ Village has people from Ngala and Kukawa LGAs.

The Women Leader, Bakassi Camp, Halima Adama asked for additional food supplies.

The DG, who supervised the distribution of food items to the inhabitants, pledged to offer additional support to displaced persons in the North East.

He said the visit was to verify the level of intervention being provided and explained that the major constraint of the agency was high level food inflation adding that more support will be provided to displaced persons and host communities.

Each household is said to have received 10kg of rice, 10kg of beans, 10kg of maize, cooking oil, 800 grams of condiments, and clothing for children.
