There is disquiet in the Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) over the removal and redeployment of the head of the agency, Mr Gbolahun Toriola.

Toriola was recently redeployed through a circular from the Public Service Office (PSO) to the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.

It was gathered that Toriola was later redeployed from the Ministry of Works to the Administrative department of the Ministry of Transportation.

But the office of the Head of Service insisted that the redeployment was a routine exercise, saying this was not the first time civil servants would be redeployed from one department to another.

The spokesman of the Head of Service, Mr Femi Ogun, told our correspondent that the insinuation on the redeployment was wrong, saying there was nothing punitive about the exercise.

The VIS, formerly known as Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) prior to 2012, was a unit in the Ministry of Transportation.

The administration of former governor, Babatunde Fashola, however, established a special cadre for the unit and converted it to a department. The conversion was implemented in 2013, with the new name VIS.

With the conversion, Toriola, being the most senior officer in the cadre, became the substantive VIS Director in 2013.
