Distribution of wealth to the poor not privilege – Cleric

An Ogun State based Islamic cleric, Ustaz Abdus-Semih Hamzah has declared that distribution of wealth to the less privileged by the well-to-do in the society is not a privilege, but a right.

The cleric who stated this while delivering a lecture at the quarterly empowerment programme of Al-Nusi Imran Foundation, Ibara Housing Estate Mosque, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, said for the world to experience peace, there must be equitable distribution of wealth, declaring that concentration of wealth in the hands of few individuals was the cause of insecurity, corruption and social injustice in Nigeria.

The Foundation, a non-governmental, non-religious and non-profit organisation, is promoted by the Ogun State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Olamilekan Adegbite, an architect, on behalf of his late parents.

Speaking earlier, Chairman, Board of Trustees of the foundation, Alhaji Elias Ayinde Banmeke explained that the empowerment programme was designed to cater for the needy on quarterly basis adding that the last episode for the year would be held between October and November this year.

He said  12 persons have benefitted from  the programme since inception. Items ranging from sewing machine, interlocking machine, high tension aluminum ladder, grinding machine and welding machine were handed over to the beneficiaries while others went away with cheques to boost their businesses.

Banmeke said that the programme was established to make life easier for the people adding that a lot of people are skilled but could not afford the tools.
