A medical doctor, Ere Ogbachi, has died from complications after delivering triplets in Bayelsa State.

Dr Ogbachi successfully gave birth to her babies at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital in Okolobiri, Yenagoa Local Government Area, before complications set in.

Her brother, Meshack Sintei, who confirmed the incident in a Facebook post, said she was rushed to the ICU following a sudden deterioration in her condition shortly after delivery.

“She successfully gave birth to triplets at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital in Okolobiri before complications arose that eventually forced us to rush her to the Intensive Care Unit in FMC Yenagoa,” he said.

He added that despite efforts by medical personnel and the family, her condition worsened rapidly.

“We watched her struggling to live, we watched her gasping for breath, and we watched how the team of doctors and other experts in FMC kept trying their best to revive her.

“Her oxygen saturation levels reportedly dropped sharply during the emergency response. The SpO2 machine in the ICU began reading downward from 70 to 50 and then to zero.

“The family is devastated by her passing. She was a dedicated medical professional and mother of triplets.

“It was a painful experience. My beloved sister died at exactly 2.45am on April 14, 2026. A generation has been lost, and the Sintei family mourns. She was a fighter to the end,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation for the support received from friends and well-wishers.

Daily Trust gathered that until her death, Dr Ogbachi was a wife, a first-time mother of triplets, and a registrar at the NDUTH.

She was also a member of the Nigerian Medical Association and an alumna of Niger Delta University.

The deceased, a 38-year-old gynaecologist with the NDUTH, had just welcomed her first children—two girls and a boy—who are all alive.

The management of the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital is yet to issue an official statement on the development.
