The FCT Police Command has declared one Dr. Ola Solomon Jimade wanted for allegedly being the leader of a syndicate involved in several armed robbery and car snatching incidents in the city.
The police commissioner, CP Sadiq Bello, at a press briefing, yesterday, said while Jimade, the proprietor of Vital Care Hospital in Kubwa is on the run, five members of his gang have been arrested for their various roles in the commission of the crimes.
The five accomplices paraded by the police are: Sunday Okhomode, 30, aka Sunny-Momoh; Meshak James, 23; as well as Amusu Koku, 28, a painter said to specialise in changing the colour of stolen vehicles.
Others are, Kunle Obajemi, 49, said to be an expert in changing chassis numbers; and Suleiman Isa, 26, a goldsmith who allegedly bought stolen jewelries from the gang.
CP Bello said the arrest of the members of the syndicate was sequel to a reported case of armed robbery at a house in Maitama in November 2017 where a BMW X6 vehicle, large quantities of gold and other valuables worth millions of naira were stolen.
He said investigation by the command, through the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) led to the arrest of the five suspects and recovery of the vehicle, adding that in the course of investigation, five other vehicles that have had their colours changed were recovered.
“In addition to this, four pistols with eight rounds of live ammunition and a face mask carefully concealed in a bag in the office of the run-away Dr. Ola Solomon Jimade were recovered during execution of search warrant in the suspect’s hospital,” he said.
He urged that anyone that knows “the whereabouts of Dr. Ola Solomon Jimade, who is said to be an indigene of Ife Olukotun Community, Yagba East, Kogi State, should alert the nearest police station.”
CP Bello added that another suspect, one Destiny Abang, 32, was arrested while trying to steal a car and that he had confessed to have stolen several cars in Garki and environs with most of them taken to Boki in Cross River State where they were sold.
He said the command recovered 13 of the stolen cars, adding that all the arrested suspects would soon be charged to court.
One of the suspects, Meshak James, while fielding questions from Daily Trust, said he worked as a cleaner at Jimade’s hospital and was part of the group that snatched a Toyota Corolla.
“I was not robbing before, but why I decided to follow him (the doctor) was because he promised to rent a house for me and furnish it because I have no place to stay in this Abuja, I don’t have a family in this Abuja.
“I met him in his hospital. I worked there as a cleaner. I am facing some challenges which I always tell him. It is only me and him that went for that Toyota operation but I don’t know how many they were in the other ones they have been doing,” he said.
